World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has accepted a three-month ban from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) on Saturday, stemming from two positive test results in March 2024. The ban, which runs from February 9 to May 4, was agreed upon in a settlement between Sinner and WADA. Sinner tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Clostebol twice last March, once during the Indian Wells Masters 1000 tournament and once out of competition. He claimed that the trace amounts found in his sample were accidental and the fault of his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, who allegedly treated a cut on his own hand with healing spray containing Clostebol before conducting massages on Sinner. WADA initially appealed the International Tennis Integrity Agency's decision not to suspend Sinner, seeking a ban of at least one year. However, after negotiations, WADA accepted Sinner's explanation and agreed to a three-month suspension. The agency stated that Sinner did not intend to cheat and that his exposure to Clostebol did not provide any performance-enhancing benefit and took place without his knowledge as the result of negligence of members of his entourage.

Sinner expressed relief that the case has been resolved, stating, "This case had been hanging over me now for nearly a year and the process still had a long time to run with a decision maybe only at the end of the year. I have always accepted that I am responsible for my team and realize WADA's strict rules are an important protection for the sport I love. On that basis, I have accepted WADA's offer to resolve these proceedings on the basis of a 3-month sanction." Sinner will be eligible to return to official training activities starting from April 13 and will be back in time for the French Open, which begins on May 25. He recently won the Australian Open in January, defeating Alexander Zverev in the final.
