A British couple, identified as Craig and Lindsay Foreman, has been detained in Iran while on a round-the-world motorcycle journey. The couple, who are in their early 50s, entered Iran from Armenia in December with plans to travel to Pakistan next. However, they were arrested in January on security-related charges and are currently being held in the southern Iranian city of Kerman.

Their family has expressed "significant concern" over the situation and is working with the British government and relevant authorities to secure their safe return. In a statement, the family said, "This unexpected turn of events has caused significant concern for our entire family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this trying time."

The British ambassador to Iran, Hugo Shorter, has met with the couple in Kerman, and the UK Foreign Office is providing consular assistance. The family has appreciated the support from friends, family, and the community, which has provided them with strength and encouragement during this ordeal.

Iran has a history of detaining and releasing Western nationals on security charges, often using them as bargaining chips in negotiations with the West. The country denies these accusations, but several Europeans are currently held in custody in Iran, and there have been multiple prisoner exchanges with Western governments in recent years.

The UK government advises against all travel to Iran, citing the significant risk of arrest, questioning, or detention for British and British-Iranian dual nationals. The Foreman family remains united in their determination to secure the safe return of Craig and Lindsay.
